White Mountains of Chania on Crete
At only a short distance (15-20km) from the villa, the LEFKA ORI or White Mountains jump out of the landscape. They get their name not from the snow that covers the tops up to 2450m from Januari until May, but from the white limestone that reflect the sunlight in the summer like the snow in the winter.
Because of the soft structure of the limestone many gorges have been eroded through times. These are very much appreciated by the many hikers that walk through the narrow cliffs with breathtaking views.
The mountains also provide plenty of water in the region, not only because of the snow but also because of the clouds that hang around the high tops.
From Villa MAQUIS you will have a magnificent view to these mountain range.
