About us

We are Rudi and Nancy, 2 Flemish speaking Belgians from Leuven area, and this is our story on Crete;

In 2015, as we were preparing for retirement, we decided to look for a holiday home abroad. We had already spent many holidays in Greece and also lived and worked on the island of Evia for almost two years. Because of this link we decided to settle on the island of Crete.

Since we didn't immediately find a house that met our expectations, we quickly decided to build. In September 2016, we completed the construction of our first holiday home in the Apokoronas region, in the village of Litsarda. Because we truly relax in Crete, are very happy here and the family had also grown, we decided to build a second time. This time, a larger villa that meets all the modern comfort of Western Europe, where we, together with our family, can fully enjoy our well-deserved retirement.

So in September 2023 we moved into Villa Maquis. We live here six months a year, renting the villa out to a small number of guests only during the summer months.

With Villa Maquis we want to create more tan just a luxury villa; we want te create a 'LIFESTYLE'. By integrating the 'lessons learned' from our first villa into the design of Villa Maquis, we can now fully enjoy the Greek life.

We've paid close attention to creating privacy and opportunities for retreat. There are several terraces and nooks where you can relax and take in the surroundings, enjoy the breathtaking views or simply relax.

We've extended this tranquility into the interior design. Personalized art (Nancy created all the paintings) is omnipresent and complements the soft, monochromatic color palette throughout the house. Here and there we've extended the natural stone walls from outside to inside to maintain contact with nature. 

Music is central and a lot of attention has been paid to 'wireless media' ... stream your favorite music by the pool or the BBQ area, in the living room or in the master bedroom.

 Besides daily relaxation, Rudi enjoys sports; swimming a few laps in the saltwater pool or training on the mountain bike is definitely part of it. When it's too hot outside he enjoys the cool fitness room. Nancy enjoys gardening, which is definitely a plus here, painting and a yoga session from time to time.

Our villa is fully adapted to our needs for when we get a little older. The villa is wheelchair friendly and the elevator makes it easy to move between the three floors.

By renting our villa out for a limited period, we can offer our guests the necessary quality and exclusivity. But it also gives us great pleasure to share our happiness with them. This way we gain a greater appreciation for what we have here on Crete.
