Chania is a good starting point for your holidays on Crete because it provides a good compromise for all your activitities.

A city trip to the charming cities of CHANIA or RETHYMNON, a taste of Greek culture in one of the many musea or an archeological site (Aptera), visiting an orthodox monastery, activities or sports or just an hike on an indicated walking path to get to know Cretan nature while you enjoy the views on the white mountains.

Our vacation house is located at 30 min from Chania and Rethymnon. I both cities it is vey nice to walk around and discover the mix of culture, shopping, nice cuisine and the many bars to just hang-out. Especially Chania is well known among city tourists because of it culture mix that is quite unique on Crete. More information is available here :

Chania

Starting from the vacation house Villa Maquis, you are well situated to visit the most beautiful places on Crete, Elafonisi and Balos beach, while at one hour drive you can go to the south of the island ( Sfakia, Souglia, Paleochora). As our guests you have access to several newsletters we created with ideas to do and visit during our vacation, just ask for it, we send you the links.

But also in the proximity of our vacation house Villa Maquis, that is located in the middle of the Apokoronas, there are many things to be discoved. The Apokoronas is characterized by the White Mountains with tops to 2450m. The snow that covers these mountains for several months per year, provides water to the area and causes the area to be very green. Villa Maquis is located at an altitude of 285m and provides fantastic views to the mountains and the bay of SOUDA.

Apokoronas

The Apokoronas area is ideal for making a walk and get to know the nature, multiple gorges offer a good alternative to the Samaria gorge that is for many of us to far reached ( the IMBROS Gorge, DIKTAMOS gorge or EIRINI gorge).

Should you just want to relax, enjoy the surrounding nature, Lake Kournas (sweet water lake) is only 20min drive, rent a pedalo or swim amongst the giant water turtles. Would you prefer the sea, GEORGIOUPOLIS has many beach bars and kilometer long sand beaches.

The holiday villa is located in rural Crete in the typical Greek village "VAMOS" in the Apokoronas region. Vamos is known for its typical Greek old center that attrackts many tourist for a short stop, a nice platia (center square) and several local Greek restaurant and cafenions.

Location & access to the villa

Between VAMOS and KEFALAS, at the end of a typical “Cretan road” the gate opens to a 4900m2 private plot. The villa itself has a surface of 280 m2 without immediate neighbors.

Situated on top of a hill (285m) this vakantion house offers the most amazing views on the impressive White Mountains, Souda bay and the Aegian sea.
