Weather on Crete

Weather in Crete in July

July is the hottest month of the summer. The sun shines relentlessly and it almost never rains (maybe a short rain shower every few years). Fortunately a northerly breeze (called Meltemi) often cools the air a little.

The sea temperature is around 24°C and spending a long time in the sea is a nice way to escape the heat.
The vegetation is now dry at sea level but you can still see greenery in the mountains or in areas that have springs and small streams.

Weather in Crete in August

August day time temperatures are approximately as high as in July but the evenings start to cool off a little, especially towards the end of the month. Rain is a very unusual occurence.

The sea continues to warm up and reaches its highest temperature of the year (around 25°C, and even warmer in shallow areas).
